Dasho Kunzang Wangdi

DASHO KUNZANG WANGDI was born in Ura Village, Bumthang, in the Year of the Dragon (1952), coinciding with the enthronement of His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, the Third Druk Gyalpo of Bhutan, who ascended the Golden Throne of Palden Drukpa to lead the Kingdom as the Father of Modern Bhutan. Dasho Kunzang Wangdi is married to Pem Tandi and is a proud father of five daughters, and grandfather to two grandsons, and four granddaughters. He completed his schooling in Bhutan and pursued degree studies in India and the United States. He began his civil service career in 1977 as a Trainee Officer with the Department of Manpower, which later evolved into the Royal Civil Service Commission (RCSC). Over his distinguished career, he served in various capacities, including as Director of the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI), Director of the Royal Institute of Management (RIM), and Auditor General of Bhutan. Dasho Kunzang Wangdi retired from public service after completing two terms as the First and Second Chief Election Commissioner of Bhutan (2006–2015). Upon superannuation, His Majesty graciously retained him as a Member of the Royal Research and Advisory Council (RRAC) under the His Majesty’s Secretariat, a position he held until 2020. After resigning from the RRAC, Dasho has devoted his time to his family, especially spending time with his two younger beloved granddaughters, while reflecting on his decades of service through writing. His first publication is based on a talk he delivered at the Royal Institute of Management. He is currently working on three more books: two focusing on elections and one compiling his Master of Public Administration (MPA) studies. His first book is dedicated to the Wangchuck Dynasty in recognition of their contributions to the unity, prosperity, and peace enjoyed by the people of Bhutan.
