Antimicrobial resistance is an emerging problem given that there are many drivers to it. In addition to good antibiotic prescribing practices, there is a need for prescribers (doctors and health assistants) in the region to appreciate their role in the prevention of Antimicrobial Resistance. Central Regional Referral Hospital (CRRH) is happy to bring this publication that describes hospital-level interventions that can help promote appropriate antibiotic use. The key components include understanding the landscape of antimicrobial stewardship, diagnostic stewardship, understanding the local CRRH antibiogram and matching the appropriate antibiotics against specific infectious agents. This book also highlights the role of pharmacy, microbiology and nursing departments in promoting appropriate antibiotic use.
