Escapades Awakenings has been my companion for the past few days and it proved to be a true page turner. This novel exposes how rape culture and child labour existed and how it was normalised in the past. Thruebab, an innocent village girl paves her own way through a remote village from Zhemgang to being the richest person in Bhutan by using challenges of being a women to her advantage. I still cannot fathom how a fictional character could inspire me to this depth.
Dawa: The Story of a Stray Dog in Bhutan
I have traveled half of Bhutan through life of Dawa Koto. I wish I could unread this book so that when i read this book again, I could experience the journey from the very start.
It was a fun read. The four L girls were hilarious. I read it during my middle school and I couldn't have related less to this novel.
This book has been simultaneously heart-warming and heart-wrenching from beginning till the end. It gives a raw perception of reality in Bhutan, and it provides ditto experience of being a Bhutanese. It really comes down to how strong your faith in religion is, can you differentiate it from the fakes?
Honestly, this book was a one sit read. I thoroughly enjoyed reading my way through this fantasy world related to my own country’s culture. It is so exciting to see our own version of fairy-tale.
PaSsu Diary: A Journal of an Ordinary Bhutanese
Sir Passu has the ability to bring out obvious and concerning topics which we know exists but can never really put a finger on it. So, we wait until he points out an issue and we follow along. I’m lucky to be able to get my hands on this book from a very young age because I have been more curious, thinking out of the box and have little more humor ever since.
