Langa Tshering is an engineer by profession, a writer by mistake, and an analyst by character. He wrote homework with a borrowed pencil at Kangpara Primary School and he was confused with the term “Education” when the borrowed pencil was stolen. In pursuit of his ambition, he even studied under a streetlight at Jigme Sherubling Higher Secondary School (Khaling) and he felt grounded when a warden shouted to get out of the sight. While he was chasing his ambition (class 11th and 12th standard) at Sherubtse College, he felt paralyzed when he was categorized as poor in English. The first day of engineering at the University of Rajasthan (India) was a brain-vibrating task for him because he was mandated to complete computer programming (C++ language) when he even did not know how to start and stop a computer. From 20 December 2004 to 14 November 2022, he was exposed to the power sector – growth, challenges, failures, opportunities, leadership, management, and complexities. Otherwise, it means that I spent 1,56, 912 hours in the power sector from corners to centers to the locus to focus to exit. He had seen a shifting of mindsets of people and pushed myself to be part of decision-making from the smallest corner of the underground powerhouse to the Board room inside the glass house where executive tea and snacks were served by hands of tall walking heels on paving marbles. I came across great minds to self–centered minds to ownership takers of the company to wealth generators to rich in pockets to fertile in brains to prosperity in thinking.
From wearing safety glasses to sunglasses, or power plants operation and maintenance to project commissioning, or engineering to contracts and procurement, or small corner at the site to Boardroom, or Assistant Engineer to Chief Engineer, he had learned 18 Lessons from 18 years of exposure and experiences in the power sector.
